6 Reasons Kids Need To Learn Code – The Skill Of A Lifetime

As the world that we live in becomes ever more digital and automated, kids need to be taught the now vital skill of coding and computer programming. So many occupations are being taken over by machines and computers. While we may not need manual laborers in the future, we will always need people to programme computers and machines. How can you give your kids the best opportunities and skills for the future? Teach kids code!

1. Teach Kids Code For Better Academic Performance

Math – Coding uses some pretty abstract concepts, as does Math. Teach kids code and it will help them when it comes to visualizing these abstract concepts, not only in Math, but in everyday life. It will also help to make these traditionally boring subject a bit more fun and interesting.

Writing – Teach kids code and it will show them the need for and the value of planning, as well as the need for a chronological order. Planning is also needed for literature and writing. When it comes to storytelling and writing clear pieces of content, there needs to be a clear order that makes sense. Code helps kids to understand this.

While we may not need manual laborers in the future, we will always need people to programme computers and machines.

Creativity – The possibilities of what you can create with code go as far as your imagination. Teach kids code and they’ll be encouraged to use and expand their imagination and creativity. Kids are able to express themselves through code and are encouraged to not just sit behind computer games and social media, but create it as well. Coding is a great outlet of self expression as kids will have the ability to create whatever that can dream up.

Confidence – Teach kids code and it also teaches them problem solving skills which will increase their confidence. Not only that, but the confidence they will gain from creating something using code that is entirely their own is second to none.

2. Teach Kids Codie To Set Them Up For The Future

Empowerment – Creating things from scratch using code is super empowering, even for adults. Conquering something new is guaranteed to give kids a sense of achievement which is so empowering. Having something digital that you’ve worked on and created that you can show off will give kids a huge feeling of empowerment. What a fantastic reason to teach kids code!

Life Skills – As we live in a digital age, knowing code teaches kids about the digital world around them and how to stay safe in it. So many adults use technology blindly and unsafely because they were never taught about the inner working of it. As well as helping t keep kids safe, code teaches kids so many other life skills like communication, problem solving, logical thinking, planning, organization and so much more!

3. Career Preparation

Technology has been slowly creeping in and taking over jobs that only people used to be able to do. And this is only going to keep happening. While technology might take over manual laboring jobs, you will always need people to programme that technology. The demand for people who can code is only going to keep growing. When we teach kids code, we are opening them up to endless job opportunities and making them more desirable to employers. Those with jobs that require code also earn up to 40% more than those whose jobs don’t involve coding.

Not only does code increase the job prospects for kids in the future, it also makes them more desirable to colleges. Coding skills are seen as almost vital. Having these skills will make your kids stand out to the college admissions officer of any college they apply for. If that’s not a good reason to teach kids code then I don’t know what is!

4. Coding Is FUN

I get such a kick out of seeing my code come to life, and so will your kids. While programing languages are extremely logic based, the creativity you can have with what you make is amazing and endless! Apps, computer games, websites and so much more can be created with code. Yes, coding can be challenging, but it feel so rewarding to overcome those challenges and see something come to life because of your code. Teach kids code for fun!

5. Teach Kids Code To Improve Problem Solving & Persistence

Some days it feels like I spend more time solving problems than actually coding! But this is such a valuable skill for kids to learn. Teach kids code and it shows them how to take a large problem and break it down into smaller ones. If you fix all the smaller problems, then eventually you’ll fix the big problem! Approaching problems in this logical, computer-like way is a really useful life skill. Instead of panicking at the sight of a problem, kids will be equipped with the skills and confidence to overcome them.

Learning anything new is challenging, especially code. Problem solving and making mistakes can be super frustrating, believe me, I know! Learning this new skill will take a heck of a lot of persistence. If your kids can have the persistence to learn code, they’ll be able to do anything! Not to mention that persistence this is such a desirable skill in itself.

6. Teach Kids Code So They Can Collaborate & Communicate

Absolutely anyone can learn to code. Chances are that learning code will safely introduce your kids to other children from different countries, backgrounds, races and religions who are also learning code. They will collaborate and learn together through their shared love of coding. Kids will learn more from each other by sharing their knowledge, thoughts and skills, compared to if they were learning alone.

Teach kids code and they might also find some life long friends and future business partners!

Code in itself is an entirely new language. Teach kids code and it teaches them how to communicate logically and also develops both their written and verbal communication skills. Communication is a vital skill to have for everyday life. Unlike computers, humans are social beings that communicate in order to share and receive information, learn and grow. The ability to communicate ideas clearly is a valuable skill in so many industries. Computers are the simplest of beings, and if you can explain your complex and creative ideas to a computer in the simplest of terms, then you can explain anything to anyone!

Teach Kids Code And Give Them A Bright Future

We live in a digital era, so it makes absolute sense to teach kids code. When you teach kids code, it also teaches them valuable skills like communication, collaboration, problem solving and persistence. Not only that, but you can teach kids code for fun! Code is an awesome way for kids to express their creativity, use their imagination and feel empowered by their creations.

Teaching kids code will not only help them throughout their childhood, but they will reap the benefits well into their adult lives. Knowing code is a great skills for your kids to be able to put on their college applications and is bound to grab the attention of any college they want to get into. Code skills are job skills. The demand for coders and programmers is on the rise. Machines might be taking jobs, but they also create them as we need more people to code and programme these machines. Teach your kids code and they will thank you later!
